Vegan Rolled Ice Cream Base
Yield: About 1 quart
This is a versatile American-style vegan ice cream base that works beautifully in the InstantChill. It has a neutral vanilla sweet cream flavor that can be customized with mix-ins, sauces, fruit, cookies, candy, or nut butters.
A rich, creamy vegan ice cream base made with silken tofu and coconut milk. Use this as your foundation for dozens of ice cream flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 package (16 ounces) silken tofu
- 1 can (13.5 ounces) full-fat coconut milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend until completely smooth, about 1 minute.
- Pour directly into the InstantChill.
- Run the Ice Cream program according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Serve immediately for soft-serve consistency or freeze for 1 to 2 hours for firmer scoops.
Rolled Ice Cream Flavor Variations

Cookie Butter
Add:
1/2 cup Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter
Optional:
6 crushed Speculoos cookies folded in during the last few minutes.
Cookies and Cream
Add:
10 crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
Fold in during the last few minutes of churning.
Chocolate
Add:
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Blend with the base before churning.
Peanut Butter
Add:
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
Blend with the base before churning.
Strawberry
Add:
1 cup strawberries
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Blend with the base before churning.
Mint Chocolate Chip
Add:
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Blend in the extract and add chips near the end of churning.
Birthday Cake
Add:
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons rainbow sprinkles
Add sprinkles during the final minute of churning.
Coffee
Add:
2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
Blend with the base before churning.
Salted Caramel
Add:
1/2 cup vegan caramel sauce
1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
Blend caramel into the base and reserve a little for swirling.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
Add:
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup peanut butter
Optional chopped peanut butter cups added during churning.
