Wondering if a soy milk maker is worth buying? And, what is the difference between a blender and a soy milk maker? In this post I share my honest review after using a soy milk machine for the last 30 days.
We need to save money on soy milk!
In our family, we drink soy milk every day. In fact, we drink several carts of soy milk sometimes in a single day. Soy milk is very beneficial for our blood type, and we have found it to be a very great source of protein, however, some soy milks can be almost 5 dollars per carton. This is very expensive thankfully we purchase our soy milk most often at Trader Joe’s and a carton is $2.29.
Nut milk maker vs blender
A nut milk maker, also sometimes know as a soy milk maker, is basically a blender with one main difference: It heats up! This machine will cook your soy beans AND blend them into delicious soy milk. So, instead of having to boil the soy beans yourself, strain them and blende them, this machine literally does it all for your in 33 minutes. Now, every morning all I do is rinse some dry soy beans (no soaking required!) and put them into my machine with water, press start, then in 33 minutes it’s ready to enjoy or strain!
Pro tip: I actually run the machine TWICE to make perfect, creamy soy milk. In my research, I’ve found it’s best to cook the beans longer so running the machine twice makes the milk even creamier.
Here’s my video where I describe in more detail the difference between my Vitamix Blender than I’ve used for over 20 years and my new soy milk machine:
The soy milk maker I use
Recently, while I was on Amazon, I saw a sale on a nut milk maker machine. This machine also can make soy milk, juices, milkshakes, rice paste, and even boil water. It can hold a whopping 40 ounces which means it can make 4 to 5 cups of nut milk at one time. I decided to go ahead and purchase the nut milk maker to see if it was worth buying.
I use the Novalife Nut Milk Maker. This has been a great machine!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have shared many recipes for soy milk, nut milks, juices, and more using this nut milk maker machine. I have literally been using this machine every single day since I purchased it. However, there is one other device which is crucial to my ability to make homemade soy milk, nut milks, and juices every day with the machine. It is a nut milk bag alternative device that allows me to quickly and easily strain soy milk, nut milks, and juices with very little effort and no mess. So, I can confidently say that owning a nut milk maker machine is worth it, however, only if you have this straining device as well.

What type of soy milk maker machine is best to buy?
Recently, I published a blog post on my website, sharing a comparison of all of the different types of nut milk maker machines. I had no idea there were so many different types of machines and methods for making nut milks and soy milks using a machine. Some don’t even have blades and some have up to 20 blades. It was very impressive the ingenuity of manufacturers for making this type of beverage.
The soy milk maker I chose to purchase, the Novalife, was regularly about $80, and I was able to purchase it on sale for about $50. I have since seen multiple other similar products at around the $50 price point at places like target, Walmart, and Amazon. I have also seen multiple nut milk maker machines that cost multiple hundreds of dollars.
Is an expensive soy milk maker worth buying?
In my research and experience using a cheap nut milk maker machine to make soy milk, nut milks, and juice, is that it’s not really necessary to purchase in that milk maker machine that costs $300-$500.
I’ve seen mostly that the benefit to these machines is that they include a straining device inside of the machine which means you don’t have to separately strain your soy milk or nut milk.
Straining is really the most labor-intensive part of making your own soy milk and nut milks, however, now that I found this really inexpensive straining device, which cost about $15-$20. I really can’t see myself purchasing one of the very expensive nut milk maker machines. Unless my cheap nut milk maker for some reason stops working but to solve that potential problem, I actually purchased a second one on sale because I’ve been using this machine every single day.
- I use this device to strain nut milk VERY easily (see videos below for a demonstration) >
And the amount of soy milk that my family consumes every Day is actually saving us so much money. I have calculated that I can make the same amount of milk that comes in a 32 ounce carton for just about $.75 with this machine. In about a month, the machine will have paid for itself.
Benefits to making homemade soy milk
Another benefit to making soy milk every single day for my family using this machine and device is that we are getting to enjoy fresh homemade soy milk every day and I’m throwing away so much less trash. The machine makes hot soy milk so we also get to enjoy hot fresh soy milk as a beverage instead of just always room temperature or cold.
