What is organic raw cacao powder?
- Raw cacao powder made from the cacao bean. It is not roasted like cocoa powder is.
- This powder is delicious and packed with protein, vitamins and minerals.
- Organic refers to the certification a food product can get when following organic farming practices, such as not using pesticides.
Daniel Fast coffee substitute
- Cacao powder does contain a small amount of caffeine, about 12 milligrams in 1 tablespoon.
- Regular coffee contains about 70 to 120 milligrams per cup.
- Some people who are doing the Daniel Fast prefer to eliminate all caffeine. However, for people who have a coffee addiction, raw cacao can be a good substitute instead of decaf coffee.
- It is important to note that raw cacao powder and brewed roasted coffee beans are very different ingredients.
- Raw cacao powder includes caffeine along with fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is not roasted so the antioxidants are intact. Because these other nutrients are together, the effect and intensity of the caffeine is different than consuming brewed roasted coffee.
- Roasted and brewed coffee beans do not contain fat, fiber and very few other nutrients comparatively. Also, because the beans are roasted, meaning they are cooked until dark brown or almost black, nutritionally it is like consuming burnt food.
How to enjoy
- I drink it every morning of the fast as a Hot Cacao Drink. Simply combine 1 tablespoons organic raw cacao powder with hot water, non-dairy milk and stevia extract (optional).
- Mix with 1 teaspoon Organic Turmeric Powder, if desired.
- Raw cacao powder is also great in smoothies and desserts.
My favorite brand for this powder is Z Natural Foods. I purchase the bulk bag and it lasts a while.

What’s the difference between cacao and cocoa?
The official name of the chocolate tree is Theobroma Cacao. Some experts believe that over time the word “Cacao” became Anglicized and most likely through common error people started calling it “Cocoa”.
Now, with the rebirth of old-style, artisanal chocolate there is a movement to reclaim the beans rightful name: Cacao (pronounced Ka-Kow). Today, the two words are often used interchangeably
