In this post I share a video of my blood test results for vitamin and mineral deficiency and uric acid test from LabCorp. This was a very helpful blood test I took recently! I show the results from my first and second blood tests and how I treated my gout through diet changes.

What is a micronutrient blood test?
- Micronutrients are also known as vitamins and minerals.
- Many health problems can arise from being deficient or having too much of certain vitamins and minerals.
- Doing a blood draw test can help determine your body’s levels of micronutrients such as calcium, potassium, sodium, and similar.

Why do a micronutrient blood test?
There are many reasons to do a micronutrient blood test, here’s a few of the most common reasons people take this blood test:
- During pregnancy to ensure you’re getting enough important vitamins and minerals for your growing baby (this was my reason).
- To see why you may be having health problems related to deficiency or too much of certain micronutrients.
- To check if your diet is getting the results you are hoping for and to adjust your diet and supplements to meet your dietary goals.
My micronutrient blood test results from LabCorp
I did my micronutrient testing, along with other blood testing, through LabCorp. This is a large blood testing company with over 2,000 locations for blood drawing and other medical testing throughout the United States.
I have gone through LabCorp for all of my blood testing for many years and I find them to be professional and the results for my tests usually come to me through the online Patient Portal within 24-72 hours. They also send the results to my primary care physician so I can discuss the results with them.

In my first and second blood draw test, my scores were good for calcium, potassium, sodium and other micronutrients. This was very helpful to know that my diet and supplements were working to provide my body with the nutrition it needed to grow a healthy baby!
Uric acid blood test results
Another test I had done at the same time was my uric acid levels. This was another story.
My results from my first uric acid blood test showed my uric acid levels were HIGH.
This was not good!
Along with the high uric acid blood test results I was also experiencing gout symptoms in my foot.
Having this blood test helped me identify that the pain in my foot was from high uric acid levels. Before I had this blood test I thought I just hurt my foot. It was very painful and made it hard to walk and exercise.
How I treated my gout symptoms with diet
After getting my uric acid blood tests, I did some research on why this would be the case. It was very odd because generally high uric acid is associated with eating lots of meat and animal products. However, I eat only a plant based diet! So that obviously wasn’t the case.
Next, I researched vitamins and minerals that can cause gout symptoms.
I found that having too high levels of niacin (vitamin B3) in the diet can cause gout! Niacin is oftentimes found in high blood pressure medication and also prenatal vitamins. It’s also in a lot of plant based foods.
How Cronometer App helped me treat my gout symptoms
I track my diet using the Cronometer App with the upgraded Gold Membership. This upgrade helps me determine my levels of niacin from the foods and supplements I take.
After getting my blood test results I went to my Cronometer App and saw that I was consistently getting too much niacin from a combination of the whole grains, legumes, and nutritional yeast AND my prenatal vitamin supplement!
I was consuming WAY TOO MUCH vitamin B3!
My health care provider suggested I change my prenatal vitamin and retest my uric acid levels.
My second micronutrient blood test showed my uric acid levels WENT DOWN to normal levels after these dietary changes to treat my gout!
And, at the same time, within about a day of making these dietary changes, my foot pain completely disappeared.

I highly recommend checking your micronutrient scores if you’re interested in finding out if you’re deficient, or getting too much vitamins like me!
Track your diet with Cronometer App
In addition to blood testing, I highly recommend tracking the vitamins and minerals you are consuming through diet and supplements. It is so easy to accidentally eat too much of certain vitamins and minerals and then end up with serious health issues.
