What are turmeric drinks?
- Turmeric is a root similar to ginger but with a bright orange yellow color with a potent and somewhat bitter flavor.
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder is included as part of the Daily Dozen recommendations by Dr. Greger. You can also use fresh turmeric juice or zest. I like to use turmeric powder because it’s quick and easy to store in the pantry.
- A turmeric drink recipe is a beverage recipe which includes turmeric as an ingredient.
Why make turmeric drink recipes?
- If you’re trying to meet your Daily Dozen, turmeric is part of the daily recommendations. However, the flavor of turmeric can be intense for many people. To make it palatable, even craveable, I like to combine turmeric powder with other ingredients into a beverage.
- Drinking turmeric is great because you don’t have to flavor an entire meal with turmeric to get this Daily Dozen ingredient into your diet. Simply make a hot or cold beverage and drink your daily serving of turmeric quickly, or slowly if you prefer.
- Turmeric is known to be anti-inflammatory. Mixing a ginger turmeric elixir is great for helping inflammation.
