Easy homemade bread without yeast recipe

What is homemade bread without yeast?

  • Yeast is a common leavening ingredient added to bread to make it light and airy.
  • Homemade bread is a term used to describe bread which is made in a home kitchen, usually by the people who will eat it.
  • Bread made without yeast is any kind of bread prepared without the leavening agent yeast.
  • In this post I share how to make bread without yeast, or any other kind of leavening agent such as baking powder or baking soda.

Why make breads with no yeast?

Yeast is a leavening agent. Here’s four reasons people choose to make bread with no yeast, including:

  1. Daniel Fasting requires bread made without yeast, baking powder or baking soda.
  2. Eating yeasted breads can promote the growth of Candida in the intestines which can cause health issues. Some people choose a candida cleanse which removes foods such as sugar, white flour, yeast and cheese from the typical diet.
  3. Yeasted bread takes longer to prepare than breads with no yeast. People who want to make bread quickly often choose yeast free bread recipes like this one.
  4. Each year there is a biblical holiday called the Feast of Unleavened Bread where people make bread without yeast for an entire week. This recipe is great for this event!

Everyday lunch meal prep for Daniel Fasting

This recipe is part of the easy everyday lunch for the 7-Day Daniel Fast Meal Plan. This lunch includes:

  1. Hummus
  2. Veggies
  3. Unleavened Bread
  4. Citrus Smoothie, optional

Here’s a basic recipe for this bread with affiliate links to purchase ingredients on Amazon:

Homemade bread without yeast recipe

  • Makes 6-8 large flatbreads
  • Prep time: 5 minutes
  • Baking time: 11 minutes

Equipment

  • Food processor
  • Baking sheets
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Organic whole wheat flour
  • 1 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup Organic extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Simply combine all ingredients in a food processor.
  2. Mix into a dough for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Transfer dough to cutting board. Cut into 6-8 pieces.
  4. Using your hands, form into large thin flatbreads. Place onto greased baking sheets and spread out dough to form flatbreads.
  5. Bake on a greased baking sheet at 450ºF for 10-12 minutes.

Tips

Mixing this dough in a food processor is ideal because it takes less time and makes less mess. Also, the blades of the food processor help to shred the whole wheat fiber, making it more tender.

Seasoning

Flavor with garlic, onion, and fresh herbs. Top with sliced onions and garlic salt before baking if desired (see photo below).
