10 best kitchen tools for weekly meal prep
Here’s my top ten meal prep must haves:
- Vitamix blender
- Kitchenaid food processor
- Power XL air fryer
- Wusthof knives
- GreenLife slow cooker
- Elite Gourmet rice cooker
- All-Clad stainless steel cookware
- Pyrex meal prep containers
- Bentgo meal prep containers
- Ball glass jars
Blender
Vitamix makes my favorite high powered blender. I have two, one of which I’ve had for over 20 years and it still works great.
Having a high powered blender makes it easy to make smoothies, creamy Brazil milk, sauces and soups. Sometimes a lower powered blender will not be able to make your dishes blended into a creamy consistency. Having the benefit of a high powered blender can help you really improve your cooking.
I use my Vitamix to meal prep for the 7 Day Daniel Fast Meal Plan:
A Vitamix is an NSF Certified blender which means it is a blender that is approved for use in commercial kitchens. I trust the brand highly because of this designation. There aren’t many household small appliances that are NSF Certified.
- Shop Vitamix on Amazon.

Food processor
A food processor is great for mixing and shredding vegetables, making purees and even kneading bread dough.
I use a Kitchenaid food processor to make:
- Hummus
- White bean hummus recipe
- Knead the dough for Unleavened Bread
The Kitchenaid brand is built well and very easy to clean. The one I use currently I’ve owned for about 12 years and still works great.

Air fryer
I can’t stress enough how great an air fryer for meal prep is! My preferred brand of air fryer is PowerXL.
An air fryer is basically like a little oven. This small kitchen appliance sits on my counter top and I use it to:
- Reheat prepared meals in glass Pyrex containers
- Roast potatoes and vegetables for dinner
- Bake and reheat Unleavened Bread
An air fryer can be more useful than a big oven because:
- There’s basically no preheating required
- Roasting potatoes takes about 18 minutes, instead of 55 minutes in a big oven
- Cooking vegetables 8 minutes, instead of 45 minutes in a big oven
- Baking Unleavened Bread takes about 5 minutes instead of about 11 minutes in a big oven
- Reheating prepared meals in a glass container takes about 12 minutes, instead of 25 minutes in a big oven
Saving time in meal prep is important for sticking to a plant based diet. Sometimes you’re hungry and don’t have anything meal prepped. Simply put some potatoes and vegetables into the air fryer and you’ve got a hot meal in about 20 minutes, from scratch.

Culinary knives
Having a good quality knife is important for safety as well as efficiency. I recommend investing in a good quality knife or set of knives.
The brand I recommend is called Wusthof and they are located in Germany. When I was in culinary school, these were the standard issue knives we received in our knife kits.
A benefit to purchasing a higher quality knife is that it is usually just one piece of steel. This is as opposed to an inexpensive knife which is often two separate pieces stuck together.
- Shop Wusthof on Amazon.

Slow cooker
This inexpensive slow cooker is something I recommend adding to your kitchen tools because it allows you to work on other projects while the cooker does the cooking. I like the GreenLife brand because they use non-toxic materials and the cooker is easy to use.
- Shop GreenLife slow cookers on Amazon.

Rice cooker
A rice cooker is a must have if you plan to enjoy rice as a staple in your diet. This small kitchen appliance lets you set it, and forget it when it comes to cooking rice. I like to purchase the stainless steel rice cookers made by Elite Gourmet.
- Shop Elite Gourmet rice cookers on Amazon.
Here’s a video about how I use my rice cooker:
Stainless steel cookware
My preferred brand of pans is made by All-Clad. I purchased good quality stainless steel saute pans and use these for cooking dishes like Tofu Scramble.

Glass meal prep storage
Pyrex makes the best quality glass kitchen mixing bowls and meal prep containers. I have many Pyrex dishes and containers which are great because they can go from the cold fridge directly into the hot oven or air fryer with no issues. Pyrex makes reheating prepared meals very easy.
- Shop for Pyrex meal prep containers on Amazon.
Plastic meal containers
I stock my kitchen with glass Pyrex containers with lids to store and reheat prepared foods and use Bentgo plastic portioned meal prep containers for cold meal prep like Hummus and Veggies.
These are great because they have dividers to keep the food from touching and they are inexpensive so I can take them to-go without worrying about keeping track of them.
Glass jars
I use Ball jars to store meal prepped beverages and sauces, such as:
These are easy to clean and can be reused many times.
- Shop for Ball glass jars on Amazon.
