What are alkaline boosting seasoning mixes?
- Alkaline boosting foods are ones which rank near the top of the USDA PRAL (potential renal acid load) score and help raise pH levels in the body. Here’s a chart showing PRAL food scores for many commonly consumed items.
- Seasoning mixes is a term used to describe the combination of various herbs and spices which together make a specific flavor. These are used to flavor dishes without the hassle of reaching for a lot of containers while cooking. A seasoning mix contains all, or almost all, of the herbs and spices needed for a recipe.
Micro Ingredients herbs and spices
I recommend using organic herbs and spices as much as possible, however I do use some non-organic ones as well. It just depends on your budget.
My recommended brand for organic herbs and spices is Micro Ingredients. They offer a variety of options in bulk packages at a reasonable price on Amazon.

Alkaline boosting herbs and spices
Many dried herbs rank really high on the PRAL alkalinizing scale, more so than fresh. This is because PRAL is calculated based on 100 grams weight of the food and there is simply more density of each ingredient when it is dried.
Some of the most alkalizing dried herbs and spices include:
- Parsley
- Basil
- Dill
- Tarragon
- Chives
- Celery Flakes
- Turmeric
- Ginger
- Cinnamon
- Cumin
- Cilantro
- Oregano
- Rosemary
- Paprika
- Pasilla chile
