These soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls made with silken tofu dough are a comforting classic with a plant-based twist. The dough bakes into tender, pull-apart swirls with a warm cinnamon-sugar filling and a soft bakery-style texture.
What makes these cinnamon rolls unique is the silken tofu dough. Instead of eggs or dairy, silken tofu adds moisture and plant protein while helping create a soft enriched dough that rises beautifully.
If you’re new to baking with tofu, I explain the technique in detail in my Ultimate Guide to Baking With Silken Tofu, where I cover how tofu replaces eggs in baking and why it works so well in breads and desserts.

Why Silken Tofu Works in Cinnamon Rolls
Traditional cinnamon roll dough often contains eggs and butter to make the dough soft and rich.
Silken tofu provides many of the same benefits:
• adds moisture to the dough
• contributes plant-based protein
• helps create a soft, tender crumb
• supports structure during baking
Because of this, the rolls bake into light, fluffy spirals with a soft interior and slightly chewy edges.

What Makes These Cinnamon Rolls So Soft
Two steps help create the classic bakery texture:
Rolling the dough into a tight log
This creates the signature spiral layers and helps the filling distribute evenly.
Allowing the rolls to rise before baking
The second rise allows the dough to relax and expand, which gives the rolls their fluffy texture.

RECIPE NOTES
For extra sweetness, drizzle the warm rolls with a simple powdered sugar glaze before serving.

Tips for Perfect Cinnamon Rolls
Roll the dough evenly.
Try to keep the rectangle thickness consistent so the rolls bake evenly.
Don’t overbake.
Cinnamon rolls should be soft and tender. Checking the internal temperature helps prevent overbaking.
Slice with a sharp knife or floss.
Dental floss can cut cleanly through the dough without squishing the rolls.
Optional Glaze
For a classic cinnamon roll finish, you can add a simple glaze.
Quick Powdered Sugar Glaze
Mix together:
• 1 cup powdered sugar
• 1–2 tablespoons plant milk
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Drizzle over warm rolls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these cinnamon rolls taste like tofu?
No. Silken tofu has a very mild flavor and disappears into the dough. It mainly adds moisture and protein, not taste.
Can I make the rolls ahead of time?
Yes. After shaping the rolls, you can refrigerate them overnight and bake the next day. Allow them to come to room temperature and rise slightly before baking.
What type of tofu should I use?
Use silken tofu, not firm or extra-firm tofu. Silken tofu blends smoothly into dough and creates the best texture for baking.
Why does silken tofu work so well in baking?
Silken tofu acts as a protein-rich binder that helps mimic the structure eggs provide in many baked goods. I explain this technique in detail in my Ultimate Guide to Baking With Silken Tofu, including how to use it in cakes, breads, and desserts.
