What are cheap healthy meals?
- Healthy meals is a term used to describe meals that contain healthy ingredients. Dr. Greger from nutritionfacts.org recommends we follow his Daily Dozen diet which includes a variety of whole food, plant based ingredients.
- Cheap is a term used to describe meals which are low cost. In this post I share how to meal prep 9 meals for just $10 using Dollar Tree ingredients.

Bentgo meal prep containers
My favorite meal prep containers are made by Bentgo and can be purchased in bulk on Amazon.
These containers are BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and about $1 per container when purchased in a bundle. I keep a lot of these in my pantry and use them to pre-portion meals for the week.
9 cheap healthy meals for $10 from Dollar Tree
Here's step-by-step instructions and ingredients for these budget, no chop, no prep meals made using healthy Dollar Tree food products.
Cook lentils
Combine 1 bag of Brown's Best lentils with 8 cups water and 1/4 cup Supreme Traditions Salt-Free Seasoning (optional) in a large pot. Cover with a lid and simmer for 35-40 minutes, or until tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Let cool for 10 minutes prior to portioning into Bentgo meal prep container.
Cook brown rice
Boil 7 1/2 cups water in a large pot with lid. Add 1 bag Omega Long Grain Brown Rice, bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Turn off heat and let sit for 15 minutes. Remove lid and let cool for 10 minutes prior to portioning into Bentgo meal prep container.
Cook black bean chili
In a medium sized pot, combine 1 can Goya Black Beans (drained and rinsed) with 1 bag frozen Onions and Bell Peppers, 1 can Rose Gold Canned Tomatoes with Green Chiles, 1 teaspoon Supreme Traditions Chili Powder and 2 cups water. Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for 30-40 minutes, or until desired doneness. Let cool for 10 minutes prior to portioning into Bentgo meal prep container.
Cook frozen stir fry vegetables
Follow directions to cook 1 bag frozen Stir Fry Vegetables. Rinse with cold water to cool prior to portioning into Bentgo meal prep container.
Cook frozen broccoli
Follow directions to cook 1 bag frozen Broccoli. Rinse with cold water to cool prior to portioning into Bentgo meal prep container.
