Looking for the WFPB cookbooks for Daniel Fasting? Check out these cookbooks filled with Daniel Diet friendly recipes.
Not only are these books packed with great WFPB recipes, many are written by doctors who recommend a whole food plant-based diet. They are filled with diet related research so you can learn the science behind why a plant based diet is helpful for physical health.
What is a WFPB diet?
A Daniel Fast is a WFPB diet, also considered a vegan diet. A “whole food plant-based diet”, also known as a “wfpb diet” is a diet that does not include:
- Meat
- Eggs
- Dairy
- Seafood
- Refined foods
A wfpb diet does include:
- Whole grains
- Vegetables
- Leafy greens
- Legumes (beans, lentils, and peas)
- Fruits
- Nuts
- Seeds
What are WFPB cookbooks?
Many cookbooks claim to be “healthy” or “vegan”, however these types of cookbooks usually contain foods from the “does not include” list above. This can make it very challenging to use these cookbooks for a Daniel Fast because you then have to find substitutes for ingredients like eggs, butter and added oils. This is why I recommend you add wfpb cookbooks to your collection.
A wfpb cookbook is focused on sharing healthy, whole food, plant-based recipes only. The best ones to get are cookbooks created by physicians who research and promote a wfpb diet, or people closely affiliated with them. In this post I share a list of favorite cookbooks that follow this diet.
Another thing to consider is most wfpb cookbooks reference the Christian Seventh Day Adventist diet studies which parallel a Daniel Fast diet. Here’s more from the Seventh Day Adventist website:
Adventist Health Studies are long-term health studies exploring the links between lifestyle, diet and disease among members of the Seventh-day Adventist church, a Christian denomination that encourages a vegetarian diet and calls for abstinence from alcohol and tobacco. Adventists are ideal for epidemiological studies in that their similarity in lifestyle behaviors (such as not smoking) reduces the likelihood of confounding that is often present in other study groups. To date there have been five Adventist Health Studies, based out of Loma Linda University.
